Last week, I had the privilege of attending the media preview for the Knott’s Berry Farm annual Boysenberry Festival, which runs from April 1 – April 23.
Every year since I can remember, I have wanted to attend the Boysenberry Festival and try all the different, crazy concoctions they whip up for the event, but always end up too tight on money to make it. No matter what, I am now going to make it a POINT to attend every year, because WOW…. I cannot believe how GOOD some of those crazy culinary creations ended up tasting !!?!
During the 23-day festival, there will be unique foods to purchase, interactive pie making, contests, live entertainment, “Easter Snoopy”, a craft fair, boysenberry products to purchase, and tastings at the wine & craft beer garden!
At the media preview event, we got to sample full-size portions of EVERYTHING, and of course, I tasted it all! Here is a recap of what I tried and what I liked.. :
- Boysenberry BBQ Wings (that boysenberry BBQ sauce was to-die-for.)
- Deep Fried Alligator & Fries with Boysenberry Aioli (I think I ate like 4 cones of this… TRY IT! The alligator is like popcorn chicken, and the Boysenberry AIOLI! Sauce Boss 100% approves)
- Boysenberry & Apricot Pulled Pork Sandwich in a Boysenberry Bun (this was probably my favorite savory dish. The pulled pork was outta this world.)
- Boysenberry Meatballs on a Stick (SO good.)
- Boysenberry Pizza (very different, but I liked it. Make sure you eat it warm, though.)
- Boysenberry Ravioli (I was not a fan of this one, to be honest, but others at my table liked it! I’m not a big pasta person)
- Boysenberry Corndog (Tasted like an average corndog to me!)
- Chocolate Covered Boysenberry Cheesecake on a Stick ( OH MY GOSH. THIS CHEESECAKE WAS 1 OF MY 2 FAVORITE CHEESECAKES OF ALL TIME.)
- Deep Fried Boysenberry Cheesecake (I do NOT like fried desserts, but I LOVED THIS! THAT CHEESECAKE!)
- Boysenberry Nutella Crepes (If you like Nutella, you will like these.)
- Boysenberry Fry Bread (Think of a pita pocket stuffed with boysenberry jam-goodness, then fried.)
- “Fun Bun” = Fried Cinnamon Bun with Boysenberry Cream Cheese Frosting (yes, I’m not going to lie and say this is not diabetes waiting to happen, but I don’t think any human could possibly eat the WHOLE thing… not even me, which is saying something. Eat half of this and go to sugar-Heaven. So. Good.)
- Boysenberry Flautas (flautas filled with boysenberry jam.. I LOVED these)
So, if you can’t already infer, I left pretty stuffed and satisfied. I have been craving more boysenberry anything all week. How much longer until April 1 !!?!
