Brace Yourself.. The Boysenberry Festival is COMING!

If you have been following my blog for the past year, then you will probably remember my article on the 2017 Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry festival… I personally think it was quite memorable due to the fact that I was freaking out over so many of the insane, boysenberry-ful concoctions… Well I am SO excited to say that I will be returning this year and will be covering ALL the goodies, events, and new offerings here and on my Instagram as well! This year, the festival has been extended to 24 days; starting March 16, and ending April 8.

If you’re reading this and thinking to yourself, “What the heck is a Boysenberry Festival, and why do I care?” the answer is ultimately this: one of the tastiest, most innovative, most fun festivals you will ever experience. In more detail, the Boysenberry Festival is the annual, month-long, food-inspired festival that celebrates the historic berry that made Knott’s Berry Farm, well, Knott’s Berry Farm. What is a “boysenberry” you now ask?

“The historic boysenberry is a cross between a loganberry, red raspberry and blackberry and is named after its originator Rudolf Boysen. The Knott family was the first to successfully harvest and sell the boysenberry on the land that is now known as Knott’s Berry Farm.”

In addition to 75 (!!) new and returning boysenberry-based items created and crafted by the Knott’s culinary team, there will be daily entertainment- including special shows, an art exhibit, pie-making, and even pie-eating contests!

Keep checking back, as I will be continually adding updates and reviews of all the FOOD and action!

At the annual media-preview night, I got a chance to try several of the new and returning boysenberry-flavored items! Check out the photos below!

  • NEW! Boysenberry Elote with Boysenberry Mayo, Butter, & Parmesan Cheese
    • I’m not a fan of “elote” (corn on the cob) because it is so hard and messy to eat. I planned to just take a bite of this, but ended up hogging almost the whole sample from my guest! It was surprisingly VERY delicious and worth the mess. But, I mean… you can’t really go wrong with butter, parmesan cheese, or mayo(especially when it is boysenberry!)
  • NEW! Boysenberry Hummus & Grilled Pita
    • I’ve seen (but never tasted) a lot of chocolate and “dessert” hummuses lately… This is kind of what I imagine it being like.
  • NEW! Boysenberry Quesadilla with Mozzarella, Cotija Cheese, Boysenberry Salsa, & Sour Cream
    • Where else are you going to find an ACTUAL Boysenberry TORTILLA? Probably no where… If you LOVE the smell of boysenberry, get this quesadilla just to sniff – literally, the tortilla alone is like a boysenberry candle!
  • NEW! Boysenberry Cheddar Cheese Pierogi topped with Bacon, Onions, & Boysenberry Sour Cream
    • If you like pierogis or potato dumplings, you will love this! The bacon and onions on top are drool-worthy alone. As for the boysenberry sour cream? It wasn’t my favorite, but let me know what you think!
  • NEW! Boysenberry Cake & White Chocolate Boysenberry Cheesecake
    • Dead. Both this year and last, my favorite sweet-treat was the frozen, dipped boysenberry cheesecake. Last year, it was dipped in chocolate. This year? White chocolate – and even more decadent. After nearly polishing off a cheesecake slice, I made it to the NEW Boysenberry Cake. Alright, by that time I was drooling and trying to stop myself from eating the rich, but amazing deserts in front of me. The new boysenberry cake was reminiscent of your standard, moist, GOOD chocolate & vanilla swirl cake: but with layers of boysenberry frosting. Why are you so amazing???? These two items alone were the highlight of the night.
