Stop. the. Presses. I feel compelled to start this article immediately off with the following word: RUN. Yes, run. Drop everything. Run as fast as you can to the Anaheim Packing House (APH) and get yourself to White Elephant for a life-changing, Heaven-sent meal. (You now may thinking, “Shelby is being WAY dramatic right now…” – I promise you, this time am not.)
Recently (ish) opened in October 2020, White Elephant is one of the Packing House’s newest eateries, and I have been dying to go since back in December when pictures of their signature “Coconut Milk Fried Chicken” started circulating on my Instagram feed. Not to mention I am always a sucker for anything Thai and have yet to have a bad meal at the APH. FINALLY today, I made it over that way because I could no longer resist the temptation. I do not know how to even do that chicken justice with my words. Hands-down, the best fried chicken I have had in my life- and I have had a LOT of fried chicken.
Coconut Milk Fried Chicken -“chicken thigh, coconut milk and Thai herbs marinated, sweet tangy sauce” : Just try it for yourself, and you will get what I’m talking about. I’ve never experienced such a perfectly crispy, crunchy, flavor breading with such moist meat. Coconut milk must really be the secret. Each entree comes with a scoop of Jasmine rice and a salad of your choice. With this box, I had the Spinach salad. Awesome.
Honey Pork Belly – “slow honey roasted tender pork belly, seared for crispness, fried garlic” : Some of the best pork belly I have had. The little fatty pieces? Droooooool. I LOVED the flavor and the fried garlic(!!). I poured some of their garlic sesame sauce on and BOOM.Explosion of flavor in your mouth. Seriously. For this meal, I tried the kale salad (amazing) which completely shocked me, considering I typically do not like kale in any way, shape, or form. In fact, I’d pick this one over the spinach I think…!?!
While I was there, I decided I would try the Drunken noodles as well! These were also spectacular, but I cannot lie… My heart was busy falling in love with the other 2 dishes. If you are a fan of sweet drinks or milk tea in general, make sure you give their signature “Fizzy Pink Milk” a try! Super unique creation that looks awesome when it comes out, due to the sparkling water!
Now, promise me that you will also try their house sauces; so good. Most importantly, that garlic sesame sauce: just ask for a side… or four…. of this stuff. Dump on everything and anything. Drool. Enjoy.
What could make this Thai foodie Heaven even more spectacular, you ask? The people. Discovering White Elephant is owned and run by an entire Thai family of kind, hospitable, creative, and talented people made me instantly fall that much more in-love. It is these type of passion-driven people that exemplify their love for what they do who make a good business great. From one of the brothers, Ten…:
“We are passionate about what we do. Serving the best quality of food is what we strive for and at the same time, having the best customer service is just as important. We are grateful when customers choose to try our restaurant when there are so many options at the packing house.”
Whether you are in the area or not, you NEED to go try (at least) the Coconut Milk Fried Chicken. Trust me. For more information (including delivery!), check out their website here!
