I cannot remember the last time I found a sauce that was so good and so versatile that I deemed it kitchen quintessential (like my relationship with ketchup). Until now. I am so happy that I came across “Olokoi Sauce” on social media a few weeks back, and even happier that I tried it, because now… A bottle will ALWAYS be kept in my fridge.
Olokoi is “a lightweight sauce that combines citrus, soy sauce, and spice in a perfect balance that will make any meal an adventure,” and comes in two varieties: original and hot. So far, I’ve tried the original and it really does compliment any and everything: rice, noodles, meat, veggies…I drown them all with it!
Upon some more investigation, I had the opportunity to chat with the founder, Julie, herself and learn how the sauce and company came about. Turns out, she is a mom, wife, full-time writer, and, now, passion-driven business owner/entrepeneur. I was amazed to discover that Olokoi is her own business that she started and runs herself, on top of her professional and family duties. Wanting to pursue something outside of the mundane corporate work back in 2017, Julie was inspired to bottle the sauce she grew up having around 24/7 – her Palauan mom’s Olokoi sauce. And with the support from her family, the sauce she always knew would play a significant part in her adult life became a reality!
Julie’s dream is continuing to prosper- Olokoi is currently sold in 15 States and ships internationally. To get your hands on a bottle (or twenty), check out their retail partners here, or buy direct from their site!
As I continue experimenting, I will be sharing my own recipes incorporating this new addiction of mine! Stay tunedπ
