I had always said that I would probably never stay at an All-Inclusive (AI) Resort and Mexico was not somewhere I planned to travel anytime soon. As someone whose travels are always “go-go-go” and “follow the plan,” I’m sure it’s no surprise that I have a hard time ever slowing down or relaxing. Which is why my most recent trip to a resort in Puerto Vallarta was quite different than my usual ventures.

Stressed from work and feeling like I never have time to just sit and think about things, my sister somehow convinced me to go stay at one of these AI Resorts. After much investigation, I landed on Puerto Vallarta: not only did it look peaceful, but it is known for being incredibly safe and not as tourist-heavy. When it came to choosing an actual resort… this was a whole other process because there are just SO. SO many. I finally narrowed it down to a few and after countless hours of research, reading reviews, talking to past guests, and emails/calls, I booked the Hilton Vallarta Riviera All-Inclusive Resort, located down South between the beaches of Bahia Banderas and downtown Puerto Vallarta. And (spoiler) this was one of the best decisions of my life. No exaggeration.

The weeks leading up to my trip, I already knew the resort was going to be great based on the service and kindness I received when emailing back and forth with the Concierge Team to get a few questions and requests answered. From the second I arrived, this quickly changed from “great” to “phenomenal.” The entire team was SO welcoming, helpful, caring, and energetic – not once did I encounter a team member who seemed anything but happy to be there and willing to go the extra mile to make everyone feel special. If this didn’t already seal the deal for me, the resort itself easily did.
Located on a private beach with 2 gorgeous pools, a swim-up bar, a full-service spa, 14 restaurants/bars/lounges, and all ocean-view rooms, the Resort is the perfect haven that I had really been needing. Although it’s not as big as many of the resorts I have seen and heard of, I was kept more than busy – in fact, there were times when I felt like I wasn’t relaxing (which was the intention of the trip) because I was so immersed in all there was going on.

Until I sunk into my SUPER comfy king-size bed each night, I thought I was too excited for the next morning to arrive to sleep. I couldn’t wait for more hours of this stress-free vacation- aka, no where to be, no one to meet… just Shelby-time. Each day, I looked forward to new activities like paddle boarding or kayaking, water aerobics, fitness classes, yoga, beach games, live music, nightly entertainment, and more. My favorite things to do, however, were strolling along the beach, lounging in front of the ocean in one of the private, reserved cabanas (this is a MUST and it is so worth the extra cost!), making new friends in the pool or at one of the bars, chatting with and learning about the team members, drinking, eating, more drinking, and sitting on my balcony with an unbelievable view in front of me, just thinking to myself how lucky I am.
To make the experience even better (how is that even possible, right?!), my room was one of the best I have ever stayed in – the bed, balcony, and shower were unbeatable, seriously. Plus, there is 24/7 room service included- did I feel like royalty? Undoubtedly.

The drinks and food were equally majestic (especially the drinks). All of the bartenders were so excited to make me whatever crazy concoctions I thought up and even had some signature creations up their sleeves. I’ve never had such amazing drinks and there was quite a large variety of alcohol to choose from.
After trying each of the restaurants, I can easily say that the beach-side daytime eatery, “Cocomar,” was my favorite. In fact, it was the only place I ate twice. And I’m still dreaming about it every night. Runner-up? “Maxal,” with a diverse menu highlighting dishes from various Mexican regions. Swipe thru to see several of the dishes and drinks I was blessed with throughout the week!

I could continue going on and on about how incredible my week was, and I do not exaggerate when I say leaving was met was with some very difficult and sad goodbyes to my new Hilton family in Puerto Vallarta. This vacation was exactly what I needed and more, but I do not think I would be sitting here typing this if I had stayed anywhere else. And this is not because of the grandeur of the Resort itself… but because of the team of people that show up daily with a smiling face, a positive attitude, and a genuine care for each guest that walks through its doors.

Not a day has gone by that I am not constantly thinking about how and when I can justify another visit within the next two or three months (my poor bank account…). Whether you are looking for somewhere to stay in Puerto Vallarta, where to go in Mexico, or even just an excuse for a vacation, the answer is right here in front of you. I personally guarantee you will be nothing but glad you stayed here yourself.
