welcome to Bangkok – midnight food tour by tuk tuk

It was my first night in Thailand – Bangkok, to be precise. I had landed and arrived at my hotel in the early afternoon and had scheduled a food tour for late that night to ensure I had something to do other than sit unmotivated in my hotel doing nothing. After walking for hours around the city to start getting familiar with the sites and culture, it was time to meet the group for the tour and I could hardly wait. This wasn’t just any food tour… this was “Bangkok Best Eats Midnight Food Tour by Tuk Tuk.” That’s right – from 7 – 11 PM, I would be whipping around the hustle and bustle of one of the busiest, liveliest cities I had ever seen in a tiny “Tuk Tuk” with a local guide and other “newbies” in town.

The company “Bangkok Food Tours” has several tour options for foodies like myself, but I knew this one would be a guarantee win and boy was I right. I do not think I can recall a better first night in a new city based on the food I ate and how acclimated with the culture and area I felt when returning home that night. Our tour guide, Neung, did a phenomenal job of ensuring the night went perfectly for each and every one of us in the group (about 10). She went above-and-beyond for me, especially, as I was late arriving and wanted to try and eat EVERYTHING! As with all tours, I am always skeptic about if I will actually leave feeling full, but this time, I certainly did as Neung always seemed to oblige when I wanted to try more dishes or have more of something.

Throughout the night, each of us had our own Tuk Tuk and driver that would zoom us to and from each of our 6 stops – which introduced us to much more than just amazing, local cuisine. Neung took us not only to some of the best little hidden gems for food (and NOT the typical tourist spots, which I very much appreciated), but also to Chinatown, a flower market, and a roof top bar overlooking the Chao Phraya River and a few temples that were sparkling in the dark, late-night sky. For us that just wanted to keep eating (in addition to the restaurants we stopped at), there was always some sort of bite to be had and tiny street vendor to meet along the way, including some of my favorites: chicken BUTT skewers, coconut balls, and some of the freshest mango I have ever had.

The whole night was orchestrated perfectly. I left me feeling full, more knowledgeable about the culture and cuisine in Bangkok, extremely excited for the rest of my trip ahead, and eager to wake up the next morning to eat more of the amazing food to be found and sights to be seen in this glorious town. Spending my first night in Bangkok on this Midnight Tuk Tuk food tours with “Bangkok Food Tours” was one of the best decisions I have yet to make while traveling.

I cannot speak highly enough of this tour and 10000% recommend it to not only travelers, but anyone finding themselves in Bangkok who love food, want to discover some hidden local spots, and are looking for a fun, flavorful night out!
