99.9% ECSTATIC about a (somewhat) new gem in Dublin- 0.1% upset that they didn’t appear in my former-home until AFTER I left. When I was living out in Dublin (Ireland) before the pandemic hit and I needed to relocate back to the States, it wasn’t so easy for me to find healthy, eco-friendly, high quality, good-for-you cafes with great people and opening hours past 4 PM… especially those serving natural acai.

Being back now for a visit, I noticed a couple of new concepts in town offering acai bowls, but none have stood out or compared to Toca Tapioca House, “an eco and pet friendly eatery where people from all walks of life can feel at home…,” which opened back in 2021.

Tucked off of the main busy Moreland St in City Centre, Toca recently further expanded their little cafe to include more space to accommodate its loyal and frequent regulars who have similarly fell in-love with the food, drinks, service found inside. The owners, referred to as “C and P,” strive to make 2 things they are passionate about accessible to all of Dublin: Brazilian Acai berries and tapioca. And I can definitely confirm that this passion is more than apparent after just 2 visits myself.
Both visits, I have left overly satisfied and refreshed from phenomenal, fresh, creative, and flavorful food made even better by memorable service. The team of kind, guest-driven, passionate team members go above-and-beyond to ensure each and every Toca visitor feels welcomed, looked after, and satisfied. Plus, they are super knowledgable about Brazilian culture, cuisine, and cooking, which I really appreciated learning more about. This certainly makes for a very special dining experience, which further makes the food and drinks even more amazing.

The first time I fell in love with Toca, I had tried just an acai bowl and latte – which were divine. However, it wasn’t till just recently on my 2nd visit that I decided to branch out and try their known-for Tapioca Wraps/Crepes – which I wasn’t too familiar with, honestly. If you’re like me and new to tapioca, here is a little knowledge for your day…:
“…Tapioca is made from a vegetable called Cassava which is indigenous to South America. It is a delicious gluten free alternative, packed full of calcium, contains no saturated fat and is very easy for the body to digest. It’s getting really popular not only in South America but also around the world,”
Because everything is customizable, I modified two of the menu items to my loving:

A Zero-Sugar Acai Bowl topped with Bananas, Blueberries, Peanut Butter, Honey, Granola, and “Pacoca”
A Tapioca Wrap with Scrambled Tofu, Smashed Avocado, and Cream Cheese
Both dishes – I kid you not- had me grinning like a clown with each and every bite (maybe screaming with tears of joy also… but don’t judge!) There is no question as to the freshness and quality of each ingredient (did I mention everything is made in house?) along with the passion behind the dish creation. I now have a new love for tapioca and am determined to recreate something similar at home!
Next time you find yourself in Dublin, forget “Irish” food, honestly. Toca is a must visit/dine at spot for any visit to the city. Hopefully, it won’t be soon before long you will start finding these guys in more cities and countries through out the world!
